Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally partners with the Sri Sakthi Amma Health Care Trust which operates The Sri Narayani College of Nursing at Sekonoor, Vellore District in Southern India. We provide reference books, magazines and other educational aids for the benefit of nursing students as they are researching for their degrees. The student nurses come from a variety of low income families and some are selected through government quotas for less advantaged groups and communities. Many are the first generation in their families to have a formal education.
The College of Nursing was established in 2006 and started Basic B.Sc (Nursing) on November 13th 2006 at Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre in Thirumalaikodi, Vellore, South India. The College later moved on to a purpose built new premises at Sekanoor, Vellore District in 2010. The Library was established at the same time. The Sri Narayani College of Nursing is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai The College is also approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi, by the Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council and is recognized by State Board. The College provides an exceptional quality educational experience for young women and also offers a two year Diploma in M.Sc. Nursing, a two year Diploma in Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and a three and a half year Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. Of the 75 Private colleges in Tamil Nadu, the Sri Narayani College of Nursing is considered one of the best. Young women with
a minimum of 12 years of study with physics, chemistry and biology are accepted into the college from a variety of primarily disadvantaged backgrounds from local communities, from government subsidies as well as student allotments from Scheduled Tribes.
The nursing library at The Sri Narayani College is one of the core resources nursing students have for their studies. Our support includes subscriptions to international nursing publications such as The Journal of Nursing Administration.
